Animal lovers know the problem well enough. A new friend and loyal companion has been acquired and the anticipation for a great living together is huge. But one important detail has to be clarified right at the beginning of the cross-species relationship: what is the name of the cute young animal? With cats in particular, the selection is almost endless. For those who are undecided, we present a very official top 5 of the most popular cat names, which was set up by the animal protection organization TASSO e.V. for 2012. How did the ranking come about? The organization offers to register the names of the cats should they run away.

The most popular cat names start with "L"

The number one of the most popular cat names is the name "Lilly". Second place goes to "Luna". Last year, cats with the name "Lucy" conquered last place on the pedestal - a real classic. Cat names with the first letter "L" are therefore very trendy. Only the fourth place in the top 5 most popular cat names does not go to an "L", but to "Mia". Fifth place was taken by a second "Lilli" - this time, however, with an "i" at the end. The results of the ranking are a little surprising. One could have expected that classics like "Kitty" will be at the top of the top 5 most popular cat names.
